Lor Mee @ Old Airport

There's this long Q for this stall's Lor Mee everytime I visit the hawker centre @ Old Airport. Today I decided to go for it. Upong seeing the stall, I realised that this stall has got a makansutra rating of 3 bowls and 6 chop sticks! Highest level!!! This got my hopes up. The Q didn't take too long to move and soon I was tucking in!

Verdict: Nice, it would have been nicer if I had kept that vinegar closer to Mee. :P

The liao was rather generous as I ordered the $3 dollar bowl. Tasty... well, at least the people who were still queining when I left would probably think so. So there, another alternatve to pasta @ Old Airport. :)

MakanSuka Buddies @ Ghim Moh...MTTSSHHSCMDCKT!!

Here's another post from my makan buddies @ work. Nice, can't wait to try. :)

Dear Roy

We finally got to try the famous Ghim Moh Hawker Centre fried kway teow.

We went at just the right time. The lunch time crowd was already thinning, so finding seats was a breeze. The only queue (abt 7-8 persons!) that still exists is the one at the fried kway teow stall!

Verdict first, then some impt info about the stall.

Clarence: This is what I call, "CHAR KWAY TEOW"! It is many times better than Bedok one (i.e. Hill St Char Kway Teow).
Makansuka rating: MTTSSHHSCMDCKT, short for "moh-tak-teng shiok-shiok hou-hou-sik cannot-miss-de char-kuay-teow" (Edit: Hahaha! This rating got me ROTFLOL!!!)

Michael: Mmmmmmmmm... v nice
Makansuka rating: Bagus! Must get Roy there!

Here are the hard facts:

Hawker Centre: Ghim Moh
Stall Name: Guan Kee Fried Kway Teow
Stall No.: #01-12
Operating Hours: Weekdays, 9.30am-3.30pm; Weekends & Public Holidays, 8.30am-4.00pm; Closed on Wednesdays
Pricing: $2 (w/o egg); $2.50 (w/ egg)

Just in case you don't fancy Char Kway Teow (as if!) or wish to try something else, check out these other stalls that attract long queues from the lunch time crowds:

Stall Name: Jiu Jiang Shao La (Char Siew Rice)
Stall No.: #01-?

Stall Name: Lucky Poh Hong Kong Noodle & Rice (Wanton noodles)
Stall No.: #01-09

MakanSuka Buddies @ Anchorpoint

Thanks guys for this debut review!

Dear Roy

Here's a summary of the little makansuka adventure clarence and i had at anchorpoint last evening. Below are the photos.

Date: 16 Aug 2005
Time: 7pm

Place: Anchorpoint, Oscar Food Mall
Stall: Kip Pillai Curry

Tried: Mutton Murtabak, followed by Masala Chicken Set

Verdict:

Ambience: Nice. Air-con. Good lighting.

Mutton Murtabak
Clarence: Good, but not enough onions
Michael: Yummy

Masala Chicken Set
Clarence: Chicken v oily
Michael: Not bad... but should have been contented with the mutton murtabak!
(bought this because Clarence said he was still hungry after enjoying the murtabak ... haha!)

Conclusion: Because the murtabak was freshly cooked - and so sizzling hot - it enhanced the great taste and enjoyment. Go for the mutton murtabak!!!!

Ah Coffee!

I'm kinda like a social drinker of coffee... but not today. Was really fighting the Z monster this afternoon, was losing the battles already until MC came around and asked if anyone wanted coffee. With my last ounce of whatever energy I had, I was the first to repond to him. Along with others... not too long later, my cuppa was there and boy did the caffeine kicked in and worked. = ) Thanks to MC and your Braun coffee maker in the pantry. :)

Fei Fei Wan Ton Mee

Fei Fei Wan Ton Mee
Originally uploaded by Makantime.
This well, is, used to, be my favourite wan ton mee stall. What I liked about this stall is the noodles. It's one of it's kind and not like those rubber bands that we get from other stalls. The wan ton, char siew and stalks of veggies is nothing to talk about. It's all in the noodles and the chilli. I went there twice this last week and dissapointingly found the noodles are not as good as they used to be. I'm not sure if it's the franchise problem... Well, maybe I'll walk over to the newer coffee shop along Joo Chiat (Fei Fei also) and try that. Hm, the Geylang Lor 13 one might be better. Well, here's a comic for all those happy Wan Ton Mee moments that I've had. Oh, you might like to wash it down with some interesting coloured Teh Peng. :)

Makantime Comics Back... with not just 1 but 2 fishheads!

Well, like they say, (who's they?) "Two heads are better than one." So today, we're having not just 1 fishhead but two! Finally managed to work out the .mac comic publishing and now are happy to present fishhead at Muthu's Curry and the other at Gayatri (back by past popularity). And yes Gayatri do allow under 18 year olds and they offer $10 fish head promotion on Monday's and Wednesdays!

Hill Street Char Kway Teow...Makantimed!

Well, the rainy days seem to be back. A welcome actually from the hot spell and the waters aren't going to stop us from trying the recently 'makansutraed' hawker legend of Hill Street Char Kway Teow, which is at Bedok, near TJC.

And so we went, we eat and Clarence said:"It's not one of the best!" Michael said:"...still got that good feeling." And I just said,"Yum, where are we eating next?" Check out the adventures of the MakanSuka buddies in the comic strip!

Hill Street Fried Kway Teow...Today's Lunch?

Hill Street Fried Kway Teow

Makantime's back! Yes, I've been eating, just having been faithful in bring my camera along all my eating places. There's also quite a lot of photos and a comic strip I've yet to put together.

Anways, Makansutra (my inspiration), has released a list of 15 Hawker Legends in the Straits Times. And the question that was asked in 31 July's edition of lifestyle was, 'Do they deserve the title?'. Hey doesn't that sound like reason for eating! So, going with my group of makan buddies in the office to try that out today! Hopefully we can beat the lunch crowd!
